During these opening remarks, Sepsis Survivor Leslie Green will share her impactful story as a bilateral, below-the-knee amputee. She’ll also share how she has used her experience to advocate for those with limb loss and limb differences, as well as provide pre- and post-operative education, appropriate community resources, and emotional support to patients and their loved ones.
Keynote Description:
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a significant threat to patient safety, particularly in nursing homes, where vulnerable populations are at heightened risk. This keynote session explores the far-reaching consequences of antimicrobial resistance worldwide, highlighting its specific challenges in long-term care settings. Participants will examine key factors contributing to AMR, along with practical approaches to antimicrobial stewardship. By assessing effective strategies and tools, this session equips attendees with the knowledge to promote responsible antimicrobial use and improve patient outcomes in nursing homes.
This session is part of the Sepsis Alliance AMR Conference 2025.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the session, the learner should be able to:
- Identify and explain the global impact of antimicrobial resistance, with a focus on its burden in nursing homes;
- Apply and evaluate antimicrobial stewardship strategies and tools to optimize antimicrobial use in the nursing home setting.

Balance Amputee Education and Wellness
Leslie Green, MA, MA, MA, MA, MSW, Ed.S is a sepsis survivor and bilateral, below-the-knee amputee who has many years of experience working alongside people with limb loss and limb differences. Leslie has been a bilateral below-the-knee amputee since 2016, and has used her experience, both as a patient and social worker, to develop resources and education for the community she loves so dearly. She is the Founder of Balance Amputee Wellness and Education Communities and a lead advocate for the state of Minnesota with the Amputee Coalition. Leslie also works for Hanger Clinic as Director of Patient Advocacy and Education, North Central Zone.
Balance Amputee Education and Wellness Communities provide education to various groups of people who have experienced amputations due to sepsis and other factors. This monthly Sepsis Alliance Connect and Balance Amputee Education and Wellness collaborative session connects members of these communities to share resources and discuss topics related to the intersection of amputation and sepsis.
Leslie attended graduate school for social work at Augsburg and studied education at the University of St. Thomas. She received her undergraduate degree at the College of St. Benedict. She holds six graduate degrees in the fields of social work and education. Her story has been featured in Amplitude Magazine and on CBS News.

Infectious Diseases Consultant
Ravina Kullar, PharmD, MPH, FIDSA, is a pioneer in finding solutions to antibiotic resistance – one of the greatest threats to global health. A global infectious diseases expert and epidemiologist, she has published over 50 research papers and has been invited to participate in the worldwide effort to help tackle this global threat. She is a 3-time invited TED speaker, and her topics have all focused on the solutions of slowing the development of antibiotic resistance. Her passion for this work stems from personal experiences with patients in her care with infections resistant to almost every antibiotic. Dr. Kullar wants to empower everyone in the world to be a part of the solution, by arming them with the information they need to take action.
