This session is part of Sepsis Alliance Summit 2025.
Sepsis remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in healthcare settings, making accurate and effective quality measurement essential to improving outcomes. This session will explore the latest updates in sepsis quality measures, focusing on newly introduced components and revised standards. Attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the key elements in the updated measures, how they differ from previous benchmarks, and the rationale behind these changes. The session will also critically evaluate the potential implications of these updates for clinical practice, quality improvement initiatives, and compliance reporting. Raymund Dantes, MD, MPH, is the physician lead for the Emory Healthcare Sepsis Program, where he also practices hospital medicine as an Associate Professor of Medicine. He has previously served as a Medical Advisor for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention where he had key roles in many sepsis activities, including the Hospital Sepsis Program Core Elements and the development of new sepsis quality measures.

Kristina Betz MD, PhD, is a physician and Lead of the Measure Development and Validation Unit for Surveillance Branch/National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) in the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion at CDC. She completed her PhD at the University of Cincinnati in Immunology and completed her Pediatrics residency at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. As part of Surveillance Branch, she has a key role in NHSN's development of new digital measures, including sepsis surveillance.
