 In this sponsored session, Dr. Khurshid Ghani, Clinical Professor of Urology, will present clinical insights from a recent case involving kidney stone treatment in a patient with a history of post-operative sepsis. Drawing from this complex scenario, Dr. Ghani will discusse critical patient risk factors for developing urosepsis following ureteroscopy, outlines key surgical objectives, and details the techniques used to navigate procedural challenges. He will also underscore the vital role of intrarenal pressure monitoring in reducing complications and enhancing patient outcomes.

Khurshid Ghani, M B ChB, MS, FRCS

Clinical Professor of Urology

University of Michigan

Khurshid Ghani, M B ChB, MS, FRCS, is a Clinical Professor of Urology at the University of Michigan. After graduating from the University of Leeds, he completed surgical training in the UK and a fellowship in robotic surgery at the Vattikuti Urology Institute, Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

An internationally recognized expert in endoscopic stone surgery, Dr. Ghani has authored over 250 peer-reviewed articles and pioneered the Dusting technique for ureteroscopy. He directs the D.U.S.T. symposium and the AUA’s “Dust or Bust” course. He also serves as Director of the Michigan Urological Surgery Improvement Collaborative (MUSIC), where he leads quality improvement efforts across 50 urology practices in Michigan and throughout the country. He is a principal investigator for numerous clinical trials focused on ureteroscopy outcomes. He is also an Assistant Editor for the Journal of Urology.
